Talk on David Kakabadze by Ms. Nina Akhvlediani, Artist Director at David Kakabadze Foundation.

“Science defining the essence of everyday life is absolutely new in the history of mankind. Modern life, its social and political aspects, is the result of scientific achievements. And science, as we know, is a positive concept. Art has also embarked on this natural course and has mastered all the methods of science.” (David Kakabadze)

David Kakabadze was a pioneering Georgian artist, scientist and one of the founders of Georgian modernism. He initiated numerous artistic and scientific projects and in his research Kakabadze wrote about the synthesis of art and production. He worked on electro-technical experiments, creating a stereo-cinematic apparatus and refining the means of expression in cinema. The profound heritage of Kakabadze may be a subject for various multidirectional, thorough and interesting studies. We will discuss his artistic legacy, works that have rarely been exhibited before and scientific research material, currently preserved at the Kakabadze Foundation. Among them are slides and worksheets for the hologram portrait of Stalin; designs for the flag of Georgian Socialist Republic and the genesis of Georgian ornaments (research conducted in 1914).
