The Association for People in Need of Special Care APNSC runs a day home in the Isani-Samgori region in Tbilisi. Here, they provide social therapy for 53 adults with intellectual disabilities in eight workshops: candle, printing and binding, wool, creative, kitchen and household, wood, garden and paper recycling. The process is therapeutic and is oriented on the development of individual and social skills through team working processes.
IWA funded a project by APNSC called “Hand in Hand”. It aimed at making school children cooperate with beneficiaries of the day home to produce and donate useful products to families living under the poverty line. The beneficiaries produced kitchen boards from wood, candles, boxes and vases, note books for schoolchildren and small children’s books.
The project made families feel attention and gave beneficiaries of the day home an opportunity to help vulnerable parts of society and show their support. The project “Hand in Hand” showed the families how productive, attentive and proactive people with disabilities can be. The project itself became an example of how children and people with disabilities can develop an inclusive and meaningful community for the benefit of society.
Usually, APNSC organizes a winter market where they sell products that the beneficiaries have produced during the year.
