At the Burn Center in Tbilisi, patients are treated for burns on their body and the organization Georgian Association for the Care of Children’s Health, GACCH provides psychosocial care for the children who have to stay in the clinic. These activities greatly contribute to the process of treatment and positively affects the psychological condition of the children being treated for burns.
IWA has supported an important project involving several components – purchase of materials necessary for the psychosocial care (toys, therapeutic and art materials), creation of two story books for coloring, training of staff and the development of guidelines and protocols to be used also at other pediatric clinics in the country.
The coloring books are about what the children are going through at the clinic. One is called ‘Elene in Burn Center’, where Elene, a little girl talks about various procedures. The other one is called ‘Andrea is going to have skin transplantation’ where Andrea, a little boy talks about skin surgery.
