Homeless Soup Run

The Salvation Army in Georgia is doing a “Homeless Soup Run 2022-2023” and IWA supported with GEL 3000. The project runs during the five coldest months (November through March) and provides support for 35 to 50 beneficiaries five nights a week in the Tbilisi area.

A hot meal, including bread and hot tea is offered to people who live and spend the night in the street. We joined the preparation of food and the delivery one cold January evening and saw how happy recipients were at the sight of the Salvation Army staff. Some people were found in their usual spots, while others move around, but on this late evening all 35 meals were given out. At times the police will chase away homeless people, so one kind shopkeeper receives three meals and three homeless people know they can collect from her.

The Salvation Army staff mentioned that IWA is one of the very few supporters they have in Georgia, most of their funds come from the Salvation Army in US and England, so they appreciate our help very much.
